

Title deeds to settlers in forest land
PTI | 08:09 PM,Sep 02,2010Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 2 (PTI) Kerala government today decided to amend the Kerala Land Assignment Special Rule-1993 to issue title deeds to those who occupied forest lands prior to January 1977, a move that is likely to benefit more than 25,000 settlers in highrange district of Idukki.The concerned rule would be amended to facilitate the issue of title deeds, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said, adding government decision was in the wake of a Supreme court order in the matter."It is a long pending issue and case is going on for a long period," Achuthanandan told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.Title deeds with right for transfer will be given to those with pattas, he added.The Cabinet ratified the rehabilitation package recommendations to be submitted to National Highway Authority to be given to people whose land would be acquired for road widening.In accordance with an all party decision, the government agreed to fix the width of National Highway in the state as 45 metres. Due to shortage of land, state had earlier demanded that the Centre fix highway width as 30 metres. But, the state's request was overruled by the Centre.The State has also asked the NHA to change the present alignment if necessary, Achuthanandan said.The Cabinet also decided in principle to set up a 'Green Field' airport at Arammula in Pathanamthitta district on the condition that the promoters would acquire land in accordance with the existing rules, he said.
