Today films have become repetitive: Adoor Gopalakrishnan
PTI | 02:08 PM,Aug 27,2011New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) He has given some of the finest work to the Indian cinema but noted film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan believes that movies today fail to make an impact on the audience."If you want to be mature as a filmmaker, you have to be ruthless with your film only then will it make an impact on the audience. The film should always keep you on the edge and curious about what is going to happen next. Todays films have become repetitive," Adoor said. The 70-year-old director was in the capital to attend Jeevika Film Festival, an organisation that showcases socially relevant documentaries by professional and amateur filmmakers.Known for his films like 'Swayamvaram', 'Kodiyettam', 'Elippathayam' and documentaries, Adoor says that irrespective of enthusiasm and creativity one has to think about the logistics."I am really happy that Jeevika is giving a platform to aspiring filmmakers to show their talent and not just that they also are funding some of the films. One has to think about the logistics no matter how much talent you have," said Gopalakrishnan.Director of the film festival Manoj Mathew said, "The purpose of the films shown here is to spread the message across masses about the social issues prevailing in the society and how to tackle them. Its the eighth year of the festival and we hope that it continues to makes a difference in some lives." PTI AYM BK
