

University VC Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia resumes office
PTI | 12:02 AM,Feb 09,2012Fatehgarh Sahib, Feb 8 (PTI) Vice Chancellor Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University has joined office after recovering from his injury. Ahluwalia joined work yesterday evening after taking Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) president and chancellor of the university Avtar Singh Makkar into confidence, sources said. Ahluwalia was shot and injured at in the University campus on August 1, 2011 by unidentified assailants. Following the incident, the university trust had appointed a Sikh scholar Gurnek Singh as acting VC. Ahluwalia was scheduled to join in December, however due to health reasons was unable to do so. Some radical groups had been opposed to Ahluwalia's appointment as the VC. He had earlier also served as the vice-chancellor the Punjabi University at Patiala. The institute is established under Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act and is funded by SGPC, Amritsar. PTI COR HMI
