"The one billion plus population in India presents diverse opportunities for US exporters with the right products, services and commitment," Bryan Dalton, Acting Consul General, U.S. Consulate General said. Speaking as chief guest at a seminar on "Engineering Services Offshoring Opportunities and Challenges," organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Dalton pointed out that the Indo-US relationship is in the midst of a remarkable transformation. During 2009,Indian exports to the United States were worth US Dollars 21.15 billion and US exports to India totalled US Dollar 18.56 billion, he said adding "this is an increase of more than double over our US Dollar 18.6 billion bilateral trade figure in 2003 and reflects the burgeoning relationship between the people of the United States and India." He further added that US Congressman Jim McDermott recently unveiled an India-US World Affairs Institute report, showing that Indian investment in the US grew by around 60 per cent in 2009, to over US Dollars 7 billion. Since 2004, Indian acquisitions in the U.S. have supported approximately 40,000 US jobs, according to that report, while manufacturing exports to India are linked to another 96,000 US jobs, he said.
