Women ''Sarpanch'' not just figureheads, training module evolved

Pune, Jul 31 (PTI) An ambitious project to educate women 'Sarpanchs' and councillors of village Panchayats in the state, using a special raining module has been launched by Maharashtra Election Commission in a step directed towards their empowerment for the challenging job. A pilot run of the project, announced by the State Election Commissioner Neela Satyanarayan, was recently conducted in Wardha district in association with the city based Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), which has designed the course contents for the rural women entrusted with the Panchayat affairs. The programme envisages development of personality of the village women representatives through a string of innovative methods and inputs to suit their literacy level assessed through various means including brain mapping. Expressing satisfaction at the response the training course has generated from the participating women, a project coordinator told PTI that the other aspect of the module imparts information about the law and budgetary provisions that a woman 'Sarpanch' and councillor is expected to have to ensure an efficient 'Panchayat' administration. The module for training of women 'Sarpanch' also focuses on the issues such as faith, social restrictions, local problems and the ways to tackle them. The objective of personality development is sought to be achieved by employing various creative and innovative methods use of certain games and activities..
