Prasanta Karmakar

A bronze medalist of the Common Wealth Games in 50 meters freestyle Para swimming, Prasanta hails from the city of courageous aficionados – Kolkata. An accident caused Prasanta to lose his right arm during his early childhood, but that did not deter this fighter to take up his recreational sport – Swimming as a career. In the 2006 Asian Games, Prasanta was bestowed with a bronze medal. This achievement gave wings to his dreams and from here he took up swimming as a challenge. Today, he has bagged no less than 22 international medals. He is a top ranked Indian Para-Swimmer, having made history in Delhi by winning a Bronze Medal in the 50 metres Freestyle S9 Category.

Binod Kumar:

20-year-old Binod Kumar from Kolkata does not possess arms from the shoulder since his birth. But inspite of this problem, Binod went on to become a national level swimming champion having won various accolades for the same. In 2008, Vinod was selected for Para Olympics, but unfortunately he could not either get a sponsor or arrange funds on his own, that was required to travel for this event, and consequently, he could not participate in the Games. However he still remains a swimmer and is also extrememely passionate about stitching and knitting. At present, he runs an embroidery training centre and trains children with special abilities.
