

Malaria kills 45 times more in India than current estimates
London: Malaria kills over 1.2 million people every year worldwide, twice as many deaths as thought earlier, while deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in India could be more than 45 times higher than what is currently estimated, a new study has claimed.
Researchers at the University of Washington's Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation who collected data on malaria deaths from 1980 to 2010 found that 1.2 million people died of the disease in 2010 worldwide.

Maruti launches new Swift Dzire at Rs 4.79 lakh
Maruti have launched their new Swift Dzire starting at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.79 lakh for the base LXI and Rs 7.09 lakh for the top end ZDI diesel. The new Dzire comes in seven variants with a segment first 4-speed petrol automatic variant also on offer.
The previous version of the Dzire will continue to be on sale but Maruti intends to rename it and sell it to fleet operators. The new Dzire borrows heavily from its hatchback cousin, the Swift – both inside and outside. Maruti have altered the front grille, bumper and have also given the Dzire new alloy wheels and a stubby boot. The Dzire is now a sub 4-metre car and this time around, Maruti designers have ensured that the boot doesn’t look as out of place as the previous version.

Washington: If alien life really exists, they would have found humans by now, but consciously avoiding us for unknown reasons, a new study has suggested.
Researchers, who calculated the time a society would take to muster up the resources and know-how to travel to another world, found that alien civilisations starting from the oldest stars in the galaxy would have had more than enough time to reach Earth.

Mercedes-Benz India launches the GL Grand Edition
Mercedes-Benz India has launched a new variant of their GL SUV - the Grand Edition. The new variant features 20-inch alloy wheels, dark-tinted head lamps, redesigned front bumper with integrated daytime running LED lights, metallic paint finishes, heat-insulating and infrared-reflecting laminated glass all round, aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs and divided exhaust tailpipe trim.
The interiors are either a combination of black/porcelain or black/maroon leather upholstery. The floor mats and the central console get Grand Edition badging.

London: It's a research which is likely to reignite the cliched battle of the sexes -- women are much better at parking a car than men.
The research, which clearly contradicts the notion that women cannot park a car, has found female drivers are better at finding spaces and also more adept than men at manoeuvring a vehicle into a space -- though they may take longer to park.

BMW launches remodeled 3 series
Tokyo: BMW Japan Corp said today it began selling in Japan its fully-remodeled series of BMW 3 sedans, which will qualify for tax breaks as well as planned subsidies for environment-friendly vehicles.
The new 328i models, equipped with 2-litre engines and auto-stop functions, have a fuel economy of 15.2 kilometre per litre, the company said, adding that it is the first full remodeling of the 3 series in seven years.
