Himachal Pradesh gears up to promote health tourism

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh, one of India's popular tourist destinations, will now promote ancient systems of nature cure on the pattern of Kerala to lure health-conscious affluent visitors, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said.

"Our main focus will now be to tap high-end health tourists. Such tourism is quite popular in Kerala. We are adopting that pattern," Dhumal said.

Kolkata: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday announced two pairs of daily trains between Howrah and Digha. Digha is a coastal hotspot in West Bengal that the Railway Minister aims to transform into a major tourist destination.

"From now on, there would be two trains, one early in the morning and the other in the afternoon, from Howrah to Digha. The name of train would be Kandari Express. The return trains will run in the afternoon and the evening. This service will start from June 13," Banerjee said at a press conference.

Bangalore : Hit by the economic downturn, the Karnataka Tourism Corporation that runs the luxury Golden Chariot train is now eyeing domestic travellers for the royal odyssey at a hefty tariff of Rs 1,25,000.

The passenger train, under an ambitious project of Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), had chugged off amidst much fanfare last year, reporting 37 per cent passenger occupancy.

New Delhi: With 486 days left for the Commonwealth Games, three hotels were named that will play host to top VIPs who would be in the national capital.

The three hotels include Hotel Ashok, Samrat and Janpath, all under the India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, a government of India undertaking would also fill the need for hotel rooms in the capital.

Panaji: Following Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik's call to assess the quality of foreign tourists coming to Goa, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Churchill Alemao has now raised fears about the quantity of tourists that Goa attracts.

Alemao said to the reporters on Thursday that he was against an increase in the number of tourists coming to the state.
