

Cong decimates BJP's terror plank, wins 3 states
New Delhi: Congress defied Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) aggressive stance on terror and price rise in the Assembly elections for the five states - Delhi, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh - to register comprehensive wins in the first two states.
The Grand Old Party of India also sprung a surprise by becoming the single largest party in Rajasthan falling just three seats short of the half-way mark in the 200-member Assembly.
Time for collective introspection in MP: Scindia
New Delhi: With Congress today biting the electoral dust in Madhya Pradesh for the second time, party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia called for "collective introspection".
"We need to do collective introspection (on how to revive party fortunes in Madhya Pradesh)," Scindia told news channels as results of the assembly elections trickled in showing a clear victory for the incumbent BJP. Scindia admitted that despite putting in efforts the party fell short in the eyes of the public in the elections.
Mumbai attack may have influenced MP voters: Digvijay
New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that even though there was an anti-incumbency factor in Madhya Pradesh, his party failed to convert into votes.
He also hinted that the Mumbai terror attack may have also influenced the voters saying just "one day before the polling day, the Mumbai incident happened".
States election results no setback: Rajnath
New Delhi: Putting up a brave face, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Monday said the election results in five states were not a setback to the party which has lost just one state to the Congress.
Singh did term as "surprising" the poll outcome in Delhi, where Congress retained power for third time in a row.
Congress leads in three states, BJP ahead in two
New Delhi: The Congress on Monday scored a valuable goal ahead of upcoming General Elections by inching towards victory in Rajasthan, Mizoram and Delhi, three of five states where voters picked new assemblies, dealing a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that, however, scored a grand win in Madhya Pradesh and seemed poised to retain power in nearby Chhattisgarh.
And even as officials continued to count the millions of votes cast in assembly elections which were widely seen as a "semi final" before the Lok Sabha elections due next year, Congress and BJP veterans began to analyse the rights and wrongs of the November 14-December 4 ballot.
BJP leading in MP, Congress a distant second
Bhopal: Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 118 seats and Congress in 71 in initial trends in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
The BJP appeared all set to retain power in Madhya Pradesh, leading in 124 seats out of the 209 for which trends were available in the 230-member Assembly.
Political destiny of 5 states to be decided today
New Delhi: The votes cast by crores of people in the just concluded Assembly elections in five states will be counted on Monday with analysts saying the outcome is certain to impact parliamentary polls less than six months from now.
As many as 66 per cent of the 9.8 crore voters in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh exercised their franchise during staggered electoral process which began November 14 in Chhattisgarh and ended on December 4 in Jaipur.
Madhya Pradesh saw 69 per cent voting: poll panel
Bhopal: The Election Commission said on Saturday tthat the final polling percentage in Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh was 69.31 and not 60 per cent as given out earlier.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer J S Mathur said this while announcing re-polling in 29 centres across 14 Assembly constituencies in the state Sunday.
BJP leader shot dead near polling booth in Tikamgarh
Bhopal: BJP candidate Sunil Nayak, a former Madhya Pradesh minister, was shot dead on Thursday near a polling booth allegedly by a Congress leader's brother at Tikamgarh district's Prithvipur assembly constituency after voting was over, an official said.
Indefinite curfew was clamped in Prithvipur constituency as hundreds of people took to the streets on hearing about Nayak's murder.
60% voting in MP, parties wait for counting day
Bhopal: The Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, which is among the four Hindi heartland states going to polls in staggered phases, concluded on Thursday with about 60 percent of the over 36 million voters turning up to exercise their franchise.
The state election commission said detailed reports trickling in from various constituencies put the total turnout at 60 percent.
