Bhopal: Notwithstanding their tall claims of empowering women, political parties in Madhya Pradesh have let them down in nominations for the November 27 state assembly polls.

Despite 47 per cent voters out of total 35.9 million electors being women, both the main political parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, which have been advocating 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, have been miserly in fielding them.

New Delhi: Three former ministers, five women and a kin of Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria are among the final list of 22 candidates announced by the Congress in new Delhi on Wednesday night for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls.

The former ministers Aidal Singh Kansana, Rajmani Patel, and Bhatuk Shankar Joshi will contest the elections from Sumawali, Semariya and Ujjain Uttar constituencies respectively.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday rescheduled the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram to November 27 and December 2 respectively to provide more time for deploying security forces.

“After reassessing the time required for proper demobilisation and transportation of the police forces for elections in Madhya Pradesh after the elections in Chhattisgarh are over on Nov 20, the Commission has now decided to re-fix the poll date in Madhya Pradesh on Nov 27 instead of Nov 25 announced earlier,” the poll panel said in a statement.

Bhopal: With the assembly elections round the corner, the political scene in Madhya Pradesh continues to look very hazy with both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress not announcing names of candidates for the polls yet.

Both parties had said earlier, with a lot of fanfare, that this time the names of candidates would be announced well in advance but nothing of the sort has happened till now.

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh BJP today said that it was ready for the November 25th Assembly elections in the State.

The State BJP Spokesman, Uma Shanker Gupta told PTI that the BJP was ready for elections in all the 230 Assembly constituencies of the State.

New Delhi: The dates for the Assembly elections in five states - Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Mizoram and Rajasthan - have been announced.

Announcing the dates in New Delhi on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said Chattisgarh will go to vote in two phases on November 14 and 20.
