

HP in no mood to reduce VAT on petroleum products
Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Saturday made it clear that there is no move in his state to slash the VAT on petrol to offset the impact of steep rise of Rs 7.50 per litre in the price of petrol.
Interacting with media persons on the conclusion of election campaign for Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) polls, Dhumal said, any decision in this regard would be taken after the Congress ruled states like Maharashtra, where tax on petrol and diesel was exorbitantly high, cut VAT on petroleum products.

PM meets President, discusses Myanmar visit
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday met President Pratibha Patil and discussed the just-concluded parliament session and his visit to Myanmar, beginning on Sunday.
The meeting between the two lasted 40 minutes, a communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said in New Delhi.

Petrol price hike: Mamata launches protest
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched her protest rally in Kolkata demanding a rollback on the petrol price hike.
The rally began in Jadavpore and stopped at Hazra, covering a distance of 5 km.

Jethmalani writes to Gadkari, says party is sick
New Delhi: Even as the BJP tried to present a united face at its national executive meeting in Mumbai, one of its senior leaders has written to party president Nitin Gadkari, criticising the party.
Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani in his letter to Gadkari saying, "The party (BJP) is sick. I presume you are concerned about the sickness of the party (BJP) which registers no response the the greater sickness of the ruling party (Congress).

DA case: Another round of questioning for Jagan
Hyderabad: YSR Congress Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy was questioned by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case for the second consecutive day on Saturday. The leader said that he had been asked to come back on Sunday for another round of questioning.
"Things went off peacefully. They sought for clarifications and I gave them. The CBI has sought more clarifications. Will give them some more time tomorrow," he said.

Petrol price hike: Left launches 6-day protest
Kolkata: The CPI(M) on Saturday carried out a road blockade across Kolkata, bringing the traffic to a grinding halt, in protest against the fuel price hike.
The youth wing of the party, Democratic Youth Federation of India, organised 'chakka jams' at major intersections across the city.

Yeddyurappa a human bomb in BJP: Bal Thackeray
Mumbai: Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa is a "human bomb" within the BJP whose president Nitin Gadkari's path is "paved with landmines", Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said in Mumbai on Saturday.
In a candid reflection on the divisions in BJP, marked by the resignation of Sanjay Joshi as a special invitee to its national executive to secure the attendance of Narendra Modi, Thackeray, the oldest ally of the saffron party, acknowledged the dominant stature of the Gujarat Chief Minister whose consent had to be taken to ensure a second term for Gadkari.

Nitin Gadkari meets Bal Thackeray in Mumbai
Mumbai: BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday met Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray at the latter's residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra. The meeting comes a day after the national executive meeting of BJP concluded in Mumbai.
BJP sources described the meeting as a courtesy call by Gadkari.

Team Anna accuses 15 UPA ministers of graft
New Delhi: Team Anna has accused top UPA government ministers including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram of corruption. Targeting 15 UPA ministers in their report, Team Anna has asked for a Special Investigation Team to be formed to probe the charges and has named six judges to look into the allegations.
"I have written to PM for a special investigative team to investigate into the charges of corruption into these ministers," Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan said.

CPM kills rivals within the party: CPM leader
Thiruvananthapuram: There seems to be more trouble in Kerala's CPM at a time when the party is being torn apart by infighting. The Idukki district head of the CPM, MM Mani, has controversially claimed that the CPM has a history of 'murdering' rivals within the party.
The comment comes on the back of the alleged murder of TP Chandrasekharan, a CPM rebel in May this year.
