

Petrol price: Karunanidhi to lead DMK protest
Chennai: After Trinamool supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit the street, DMK President M Karunanidhi, another key ally of UPA, would lead a protest demonstration in Chennai on May 30 against the recent petrol price hike.
The 88-year-old party patriarch would lead DMK's state-wide demonstration by taking part in the protest to be held at Saidapet.

States can reduce VAT on petrol: Narayanasamy
Chennai: Amid the mounting pressure for rollback of petrol price hike, Minister of State in the PMO V Narayanasamy has said states could reduce the Value Added Tax on petroleum products to provide relief to the people.
"The states can lower the VAT and that can help reduce the petrol price," he told reporters at the airport.

Deploy central forces at Mullaperiyar: Jaya to PM
New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has once again written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, demanding that central forces be deployed at the Mullaperiyar dam site. She said that she will deploy the state police at the controversial site if Centre doesn't help.
She had written to the Prime Minister earlier in December asking the Centre to ensure that Kerala didn't stop officials from her state from closing holes drilled in the 119-year-old dam. Jayalalithaa now says that if the Centre doesn't heed her request, Tamil Nadu will deploy its own police to guard the dam.

Govt is trying to malign me: Jagan
New Delhi: YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy said that the central government was trying to malign his image in the disproportionate assets case. He also blamed the CBI for delaying his interrogation in the case.
"The arrests of YSR Congress workers are fake. The government is trying to malign me. CBI is trying to delay my questioning to keep me out from campaigning. They are asking repeatedly irrelevant questions about investments even before my father became chief minister but I'm answering with patience. They will otherwise accuse me of not cooperating," he said.

Team Anna welcomes Krishna's defamation suit
New Delhi: Reacting to External Affairs Minister SM Krishna's warning, Team Anna on Sunday said they would welcome a defamation suit by the government against them for levelling charges of corruption against top UPA ministers.
"If SM Krishna has not done anything wrong, why he is scared. We welcome a defamation suit," Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan said.

CBI to continue questioning Jagan today
Hyderabad: For the second consecutive day, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled YSR Congress Party leader YSJaganmohan Reddy for over seven hours on Saturday in the disproportionate assets case and directed him to appear again on Sunday.
Jagan, as the MP from Kadapa is popularly known, told reporters that the CBI sought more clarifications from him and have asked him to come again Sunday.

Krishna rejects Team Anna's allegations of graft
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister SM Krishna on Saturday rejected allegations of corruption levelled against him by Team Anna and cautioned its members that their actions would amount to over-reaching a judicial process.
In a letter to Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal hours after the allegations were levelled, Krishna reminded that the matter referred to was sub-judice and the Supreme Court had put a stay on it.

Akhilesh favours debate on FDI
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that a debate should be held on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Addressing a conclave organised by the Hindustan Times in Lucknow, he said if the FDI was against the interest of farmers, his government would never support it.
Akhilesh reiterated development through PPP model to march ahead in the field of IT, power, health, transport, industry and other sectors.

Cong compares Modi to Hitler's propaganda minister
New Delhi: Hitting back at Narendra Modi for his criticism of the UPA, Congress on Saturday said the soul of Hitler's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels seemed to have entered the "frustrated" Gujarat Chief Minister and accused him of crossing the "Laxmanrekha".
"Gujarat Chief Minister is a frustrated man. It seems the soul of Joseph Goebbels, the propaganda minister during the Nazi regime of Hitler in Germany, has gone inside him. He has crossed all limits.

No threat to Andhra Pradesh govt, says Congress
Hyderabad: Despite ominous signs that there could be further exodus of its MLAs to YSR Congress of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh is not ready to accept that its government faced a possible threat in the near future.
"There is no threat to the Congress government and it will last its full term, no matter who stays in the party or leaves it and N Kiran Kumar Reddy would continue to be the chief minister," deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha asserted on Saturday.
