

Pankaj Advani wins Asian Billiards Championship
Panaji: Six-time world champion Pankaj Advani clinched the 11th Asian Billiards Championship title after defeating Thawat Sujaritthurakarn of Thailand in the final on Sunday.
Although Advani was the one who started the proceedings on a positive note by winning the opening game, it was Thawat who actually impressed in the initial stages of the match, played at the Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias Miramar, by taking the second and third games to secure a 2-1 lead.

New Delhi: Vijender Singh (75kg) became the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games for a third successive time after reaching the semi-finals of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan on Sunday.
The first Indian to win an Olympic and World Championships medal - bronze in both events - Vijender outpunched Chuluuntumur Tumurkhuyag of Mongolia 27-17 to not just assure himself of an Olympic berth but also a medal at the ongoing tournament.

New Delhi: Teen sensation Shiva Thapa (56kg) inched closer to Olympic qualification but the London dream ended for Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Suranjoy Singh (52kg) who lost in the second round of the Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan on Saturday.
Suranjoy was out-punched 10-30 by Mongolia's Tugstsogt Nyambayar, who was his nemesis in both the 2009 and 2011 World Championships as well.

New Delhi: Olympic bronze-medallist Vijender Singh stood just one win away from securing a berth in the London Games after clinching his pre-quarterfinal bout, along with Manpreet Singh, on a second successive triumphant day for India at the Asian Boxing qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan on Friday.
Vijender (75kg), a former World Championships bronze-medallist, defeated Syria's Ishak Waez 11-5 to set up a clash with Mongolia's Chuluuntumur Tumurkhuyag in the quarter-finals.

Suranjoy, Sumit win Asian qualifying openers
