The injured have been shifted to King George and railway hospitals in Visakhapatnam.
Senior railway and police officials supervised rescue operations.
According to railway officials the accident took place just after 2300 hrs IST on Monday night.
The reason for the accident is reportedly a technical fault.
Passengers who escaped unhurt are being taken to their destinations by Andhra Pradesh state transport buses.
