Gaya (Patna): What’s in a name? Well! There is a lot in it especially if it is as big as Saddam Hussein.

Saddam Hussein bowls to Saddam Hussein and even those fielding are all Saddams in a Lucknow village in Bihar’s Gaya district.

The legacy of the Iraqi leader lives on here as the residents pay a silent tribute to the late Iraqi leader by naming their children after him.

Over 25 children are named Saddam Hussein in the village. And some 100 others in adjoining villages bear the same name too.

“We have named our children as Saddam because Saddam was a brave man. He was the protector of Muslims and was an honourable person. We have named our children as Saddam and will continue to do so,” says a local resident, Mohammad Abul Kalam.

“I am proud of myself and my villagers are also proud that there are many Saddams in this village. More Saddams will be born. No hero has been born as great as Saddam and will never be born,” says a local resident Saddam Hussein.

“America had attacked Iraqi in 1991 and I was born in the year 1992, “ says a child, Saddam Hussein.

“We have named about 15 to 20 of our children as Saddam in our Lucknow village and by the grace of Allah we will name more of our children after Saddam,’ says a local resident, Nazir Ahmad.

Even as the Sunni-dominated village mourns the execution of its hero, there is reaffirmation that the custom will continue.

“Sadddam has perished but many Saddams have already been reborn in every corner of the world and will be reborn again,” a local resident, Imtiyaaz Ahmad.

So the rebirths of so many Saddams may be cause for small worries to the world's sole superpower.
