Jammu: Ten employees of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department were on Thursday injured in a clash with police when they were marching towards civil secretariat here to press for their demand for regularisation of service.
About 1500 employees of the department took out a protest rally from the chief engineer's office at Canal road, raising anti-government slogans in support of their demand for regularisation of over 2000 daily wagers, police said.
As they tried to reach the Secretariat, a clash broke out between the police and the protestors.
Police had to baton-charge to disperse the rally, they said, adding 10 persons were injured in the clash. Three of them were admitted to Government Medical College hospital with serious injuries.
The PDD workers, who are on a strike for past two month, re-assembled at the chief engineers office and staged a dharna.
Over 2000 people working as work as fitters, line-men, gang-men and transmission supervisors, are daily wagers for past over 2 decades in PDD and they have not be regularised, a spokesman of the department said.
