New Delhi: The medical world has been faced with a shocking case, a 10-year-old girl battling breast cancer in the US, Hannah Powell Auslam is the youngest patient in the world to have the disease.
Hannah's mother Kerry Auslam was shocked to learn about her daughter's disease. "That was the first thing on my mind, 10-year-olds don't get breast cancer," she said.
Hannah mistook a lump for rib cage which was in fact a malignant tumour in one of her breasts. One week ago, Hannah, a fifth grader had a mastectomy.
"I was just shocked, how cud this happen? I'm 10, so I was very shocked," said Hannah.
The case is has stunned the medical world too because no one in the medical community believed it could be true. The youngest case known of breast cancer was of a 16-year-old. Her left breast had to be completely removed.
On Monday Hannah's doctor delivered another shock to her parents, there is cancer in her lymph node. Hannah's parents want it removed.
"I told my mom, I just want to be a normal kid and hang out with friends," said Hannah.
Hannah's remarkable strength has kept the family from trembling now, it's their turn to step up and fight this awful disease.
On Tuesday night Hannah's grandfather got the first pink ribbon tattoo, many more will be inked in Hannah's name.
"I am going to set an example for all the kids, that if there is something wrong with your body, you just tell your parents," said the brave Hannah.
