Jalandhar (Punjab): In a shocking repeat of last week's Bhagalpur incident where two policemen dragged a man behind a motorbike, an equally shocking case has been reported, this time from Punjab.
A 10-year-old boy was dragged along the ground after being tied behind a horse in Jalandhar. The cruel treatment was meted out to him because he stopped the alleged assailant's horse from grazing in his field.
The assailant is said to belong to the influential local Gujjar community.
The incident happened on Monday evening at Raowali village near Jalandhar. Ten-year-old Etwari says he was tied up, beaten with a stick and then dragged on a road by the Gujjars.
“After I chased the horse that came in my field, the Gujjars caught me and beat me in a room. They tied my leg to the horse and dragged me on the road,” says Etwari.
Etwari, son of a migrant farm labourer, has been hospitalised and police have registered a case. But no one has been arrested as yet.
