The women work at a hotel in Koramangala and were travelling in a company-owned Qualis car when they were waylaid by six goons at around midnight.
The armed men on two-wheelers blocked the car, stabbed the driver and drove away the vehicle. The police tracked the gang down after they made a ransom call to the hotel’s manager demanding Rs 4 lakh to release the women. The restaurant owner alerted the police, who blocked the Qualis after an almost four-hours chase.
Three policemen were injured when the gang members stabbed them.
Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner, Bangalore Police, blamed the kidnapping on Wasim, a notorious criminal and the gang’s leader.
A High Court ruling last year allowed women bartenders to work in the city, but with more than 3,000 pubs, bars and hotels in the city the police has its task cut out.
