Mumbai: Young Adnan Patrawala's profile on Orkut shows his passion for driving his Skoda Octavia. It was an outing with his friends in his own car that ended in his murder and three of his friends arrested.
It was in police custody that the arrested boys -- Sujith Nair (28), Ayush Bhat (19) and Himmesh Ambavat (18) -- confessed to killing Adnan by strangling him.
The three had befriended Adnan about six months ago and used to meet him regularly for a game of pool at a mall near his house.
Adnan drove out of his Lokhandwala house in his silver Skoda, MH 43 A 109, at 11 pm on Saturday night. He called his mother at about 1:30 am saying he would stay out that night, as he was playing pool.
At 11 am on Sunday, his parents received an unindentified call saying he'd been kidnapped. They thought it was a prank, but at noon, they got another call, asking for Rs 2 crore, after which they filed a complaint at the Oshiwara Police Station.
However, the three kidnappers panicked when they received a call from another common friend informing them of the police complaint and the fact the news was bring broadcast on national television.
Adnan was forcefully driven to a Navi Mumbai township where they killed him on a deserted palm road, dumped his body in the nearby marshes and abandoned his silver Skoda at the Nerul railway station.
The police is now trying to ascertain the exact motive behind the whole kidnapping, which went erroneously wrong. However, they suspect that the three kidnapped Adnan to sustain their expensive lifestyles.
