New Delhi: A key witness of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that CNN-IBN had tacked down has approached the Delhi high court again.
Jasbir singh has pleaded that he be allowed to testify against Jagdish Tytler through video conferencing, something that CBI has refused to allow until now.
“Why is the CBI is refusing even as the court has allowed video conferencing,” says Jasbir Singh.
Jasbir Singh told CNN-IBN last week that the CBI was pressurising him to come to India and depose even though the option of deposing through video conferencing remained. On Friday, Jasbir, key witness of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots appealed to the Delhi high court against what he calls a biased CBI which is “creating hindrance in the smooth conduct of investigation."
"Our apprehension is that CBI might close this case all together. That’s why we have approached the court,” says Sharad Kapoor, Jasbir's lawyer.
Jasbir in his petition has pleaded that the January 2nd notice of the CBI asking him to come to India be quashed. He also pleased in his petition that he be allowed to depose via video conferencing and that the CBI be restrained from filling a closure report in this case.
"The CBI has invoked wrong provisions of law while sending him a notice. He can depose from there," says HS Phulka, Lawyer, Riot Victims.
The CBI had asked Jasbir to come to India and depose by the January 8th. However, Jasbir says though he is willing to join the investigations, the CBI is not cooperating and is putting up conditions which might endanger his safety.
