2 army men held in drug scam in Delhi

New Delhi: A retired army personnel and a male nurse in the army hospital here were arrested Friday for allegedly selling life saving drugs worth Rs 500,000 from the hospital, police said.

The main accused Kuldeep Singh was arrested from Chandni Chowk in north Delhi while his accomplice James John was nabbed from his Mahipalpur residence in southwest Delhi.

Drugs stolen from the Army Hospital Research & Referral in Dhaula Kuan area were also recovered from their possession.

Singh, who retired as a constable from the Army Medical College was running the drug scam with his accomplice John, a nursing assistant in the army hospital in Dhaula Kuan, police said.

"Acting on a tip-off that Singh would come to supply stolen drugs in Chandni Chowk, a trap was laid to apprehend him," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur said.

"On interrogation, Singh revealed that he contacted John to steal medicine, which they would sell in the market," he added.
