Click to play videoMumbai: In a shocking story from Mumbai, a Nepali watchman has alleged that his children were set on fire by two other children living in the society where he works.
Dali Ramsingh Darji's four-year-old son Dhanraj is recovering in the hospital after suffering 35 per cent burns. His two-year-old sister, Moti died in the fire.
No apparent reason has been given as to what could have caused the enmity between the children, to provoke such an attack.
Darji says that his children were playing inside a covered handcart when it caught fire on March 17. He claims that the fire was not accidental but that it was started by two teenagers from the same complex.
Darji is a watchman at the Narmada Complex in Navi Mumbai.
“The two teenagers have been threatening me for some time now. I was scared and had tried to keep my children indoors as far as possible,” says Darji.
With no evidence to support Darji's claim, the police termed the death as accidental.
So Darji decided to approach political parties and ironically it is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) that has taken up his cause.
“First we were reluctant because it could be a bhaiyya issue but now just for the sake of humanity we have taken this case up,” says an MNS worker, Sawant.
While the two accused children's parents were unwilling to comment on camera, their neighbours are convinced the fire was an accident.
“I do not think that the children burnt the children,” says a neighbour.
The police have re-opened the case on the basis of Darji's son's statement and the MNS' request, but they are not convinced.
“Who can believe a four-year-old child until there is evidence,” says Senior PI, Panvel, Suryakant Ghatge.
Till the case is solved one can only hope that the reality is not as horrific as two children taking the life of another child.
