indianexpressExpress News Service

SONEPUR: Two under trial prisoners (UTPs) lodged in Sonepur sub jail, escaped by climbing the high walls of the jail using a rope on Saturday evening. The two have been identified as Dilip Mallick of Kantapli in Bargarh district and Shankar Bhoi of Uphula village in Birmaharajpur of the district. While Dilip was remanded in judicial custody in October last for his involvement in a dacoity case in Dungripali, Shankar was jailed on September 7 on charges of stealing a motorcycle.

Reports said the absence of the duo came to light when they did not turn up during roll call before dinner. On search police found a rope hanging from the wall of the jail.

Jail Superintendent (incharge) Joseph Barik said a probe has been initiated.
