Anandpur Sahib (Punjab): At least 20 pilgrims were killed and about 65 injured when a truck carrying them from the Naina Devi in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh overturned near Anandpur Sahib early Tuesday, police said.
The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Anandpur Sahib for treatment. Six of them, who were in serious condition, were taken to the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh, 100 km from the accident spot, police officials said.
The truck with many pilgrims, including women and children, was returning after the group paid obeisance at the Naina Devi shrine on Monday night during the Navratra festival.
The pilgrims belonged to a village near Machhiwara town near Ludhiana in Punjab.
