Tendulkar wants to forget 2003 World Cup final

CNN

Sachin Tendulkar is one player who would rather have his bat do the talking. But in an exclusive interview to CNN's Talk Asia programme; Sachin Tendulkar the man opened his heart about family, cricket controversies, and his cricket career.

On Scandals:

All those things I know were a bit unfortunate but there were certain things that were blown out of proportion. Certain things, which didn’t happen. It not that its only happening in today’s cricket. It happened earlier also. There were plenty of controversies earlier also. But now because of media attention on players everything is put under microscope. Sometimes it is blown out of proportion and sometimes the player is at fault.

On Being a celebrity:

We tried doing that. It was just for fun. I tried to disguise and put on specs and dropped the specs and on one side the glass broke. In only one side the glass was there and it was funny. I enjoyed doing that. I don’t have to always do all those things. It is pretty normal.

On Arjun and Sara:

I didn’t discuss cricket with my kids. Both of them. My son is now eight but almost till the age of four or so, I didn’t discuss cricket with him. He didn’t know. Just to tell you a story of my daughter when I started a restaurant, the teacher in their class normally read out newspapers to just let them know what is happening around the world. She was about four at that time and didn’t know anything about the restaurant and the teacher said that there is a cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, who has just started a restaurant and would you like to go out to the restaurant. My daughter came up and said even my father’s name is Sachin Tendulkar. I thought that was cute. She didn’t know.

Biggest Disappointment:

I think the World Cup final in 2003. You look back and feel that it was a huge disappointed after such a high. We had played so well throughout the tournament and just towards the end we couldn’t. Probably because we were too charged up because we wanted that Cup too badly. We tried so hard rather too hard to win and it didn’t work out and it didn’t work out. It’s something that I would like to forget.

On Calls for Retirement:

Not really. I am a positive person. I am not one of those who dwell on past. I like to move forward. These challenges, these hurdles in between… they bring the best out of me, they motivate me more. It was a disappointing moment, a huge disappointing moment but I came back and started working on my game. I trained harder and I wanted to perform better. I am kind of a person that I perform well, I want to do better and if I have not done well then I want to work on my game. Eventually all my practice sessions are to see how better I can get in all the departments of the game. As far as fitness is also concerned, how could I make myself better or at least maintain the standard fitness that I had for so many years.

Future:

The 19 years that I have played, I have just gone out and tried to be in the present rather then being inn the past or being in the future. I can say that I am really, really enjoying my game. It’s been a special journey for me and I am enjoying it and loving it. I wouldn’t want to go too far ahead and think what I want to do but there’s definitely cricket left in me. I want to just go out and enjoy my game and not think about other things. I have a beautiful family and they all take the other pressures so that I could focus on cricket and nothing else. So I am privileged and just want to be in that position.
