Mumbai: Sensex starts the year 2009 on a positive note surges 82 points at 9,729.79; Nifty up 27.6 points at 2,986.75.
Software exporters stocks such as Infosys Technologies was up by 0.19 per cent at Rs 1,120 and Tata Consultancy Services by 1.11 per cent at 483.40.
Besides, State Bank of India was up by 0.25 per cent at Rs 1,291.50, ICICI bank by 2.35 per cent at Rs 458, Tata Steel by 2.56 per cent at Rs 222.40 and Sterlite Industries by 3.62 per cent at Rs 270.20.
