Mumbai: It was a rocking evening with some of the best bands in India. Independence Rock, in its 22nd year has become bigger and better.

Earlier known as Mumbai's biggest rock music concert, this year I-Rock went to other metros as well. So after the first round in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, the city winners were invited to perform for the grand finale in Mumbai.

Says E 18 CEO, Farhad Wadia, "We had actually gone and handpicked the people who would perform. Earlier when we had tapes, one could never be sure if it was the people themselves who were playing or was it their friends. This time, we can't make a mistake."

Mumbai's Black and Scribe, Delhi's Half Step Down and Boomerang and After Burns and Caesars Palace from Bangalore were the bands that enthralled the crowd on Saturday evening.

And the crowd couldn't get enough. The winner was Mumbai's Scribe, which will now go on a victory lap, performing in all the three metros.

Says Scribe band member, Neeraj Trivedi, "This just goes to highlight how independent music survives just by word of mouth, just from new kids entering and bringing in new energy. It's a testament to the fact that this can happen anywhere. Independence Rock is the longest running rock concert in Asia and that is just great."

One can only hope that this annual celebration of rock music continues to rock on undisturbed.
