Mumbai: The anti-north Indian tirade in Maharashtra has claimed another victim.

Twenty-five-year-old labourer, Dharamdev Rai, hailing from Faizabad in UP died after being beaten up on board a train just outside Mumbai on Tuesday.

Police have rounded up a few MNS activists in connection with the incident.

An inconsolable widow of 25-year-old Dharamdev Rai, Deepa was looking forward to Dharamdev's arrival for Diwali when news arrived that he had been beaten to death.

Dharamdev, a factory employee in Khopoli, was on his way to his hometown Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, when he was murdered

Wife of Dharamdev, Deepa Rai, says that she does not want to live anymore.

Trouble began when Dharamdev and three of his colleagues boarded a train to Kurla at 1357 hours.

Apparently, they got into an altercation with around 10 Marathi speaking youth over window seats.

On discovering that the labourers were north Indians, the youth reportedly beat them up, before getting off the train at the next station.

“After the train had gone a few kilometer, some people entered our compartment. They asked us where we were from. When they learnt we're from UP, they made us sit separately. Then they first verbally abused us and then started beating us up,” recalls Rai's friend Virendrakumar Rai.

Dharamdev was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The autopsy report says he died of a liver puncture. His family is angry that the authorities even failed to hand over the body.

Ram Narayan Rai says, “We should do whatever we can for his family. Both governments should help them.

The railway police have meanwhile rounded up 10 MNS activists in connection with the incident. The Maharashtra government has asked the Chief Secretary to conduct an enquiry.

Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra RR Patil has asked the case to be put in a fast-track court for justice.

However, The MNS however has denied any involvement in the killing, and says its men are being held for no reason.
