26 killed as suicide bombers strike twice in Pak

New Delhi: Lahore appears to be the latest battleground for the Jihadi.

Last week it was the War College and today it was the building housing the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan's equivalent of the CBI.

Police say a suicide attacker drove his van loaded with more than 60 kilo of high explosive into the FIA compound on Tuesday morning and blew himself up.

Twenty-two people died instantly the blast virtually destroyed the building.

“A vehicle full of explosives forced its way to the FIA headquarters,” says Police Chief, Lahore, Iqbal Malik.

Minutes later there was another strike and this time at a house in a residential area in Model Town and the method was the same.

Two suicide attackers drove a pick-up truck into the compound and triggered the explosives in the vehicle.

Police suspect the bombers real target was Bilawal House owned by Asif Zardari, which is close by. Model Town is also home for Nawaz Sharif.

“It could not have been a target of bombing towards ourselves because we could not have been a target. The Bilawal House is right opposite in the next lane,” says a house owner, Salman Batawli.

The attack killed two children, tore a 15-foot wide crater and shattered windows of buildings within a radius of 100 metre.

President Musharraf condemned the attacks and promised to hunt down those involved.

Police have set up two investigative teams, a high alert has been sounded across the country and security is being stepped up at airports, railway stations, commercial areas and key installations.
