New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday sharpened its attack on the UPA government demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the 2G spectrum scam and coalgate. Even as the Opposition appeared divided over seeking PM's resignation, for the Congress these are worrying times. The passage of crucial bills in the Budget Session including the Finance Bill are at stake if the deadlock persists.

The NDA is upping the ante and seeking the sacking of Law Minister Ashwani kumar for allegedly influencing the pending CBI affidavit before the Supreme Court. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned amidst protests by the BJP MPs.

In the Parliamentary party meeting of the BJP, the MPs wanted the protest on the JPC to continue in Parliament, especially the inferences against former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former telecom minister A Raja insisting on having kept the PMO in the loop in the 2G allocation.

BJP MP's are preparing for a showdown in the JPC meeting called to adopt the draft report this Thursday. A meeting of not UPA members for the JPC from JDU and BJD was held in Parliament to discuss a joint strategy for the JPC meet.

The Opposition, however, differs with the BJP's demand that the Prime Minister should resign over the coalgate scandal. Meanwhile, the Congress has rejected the demands for the PM's resignation with Congress President Sonia Gandhi making her support amply clear.

For the Congress, though, the worry remains passage of crucial bills in the Budget Session including the Finance Bill if the deadlock persists.
