Second blast: Residency Road, 2 hurt

CNN-IBN

Srinagar: Minutes after a tourist vehicle was attacked in the Dal Gate area, another grenade explosion was reported in the busy commercial hub of Residency Road.

A grenade was lobbed at a Maruti car bearing a Haryana registration number.

At least two people have been injured in the attack, though there is no official confirmation of casulaties.

Police is investigating the possibility of a malfunction in the vehicle that could have caused the explosion.

They ruled out the possibility of the two attacks (Dal Gate and Residency Road) being related. "One is at Dal Gate and the other is in a commercial hub. I don't think the two are related. The law and order situation in the state is under control," Inspector General of Srinagar, S N Sahai said.

According to officials, it would be a difficult task to track down those responsible for the attack as it's usually college students who are paid a paltry sum of Rs 200-Rs 300 to carry out such attacks.

There was heavy police deployment in the Residency Road area as a minister was expected to inaugurate a showroom there.

Details are awaited.
