3 convicted of killing Satyendra Dubey

Patna: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Patna on Monday convicted three people for the murder of Satyendra Dubey, an Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur civil engineering graduate who was working with the National Highways Authority of India.

Mantu Kumar, Udai Kumar and Pinku Ravidas were convicted by the Additional Judge-IX, Patna, for the murder of Dubey.

The sentence will be pronounced on March 27.

Mantu Kumar was convicted under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder), 394 (Voluntary causing hurt in committing robbery) and 27 (A) Arms Act for possessing unlicensed weapon.

The other two accused persons were convicted under Section 302/34 (Murder committed in furtherance of common intention) and 394 IPC.

But it still did not appear to be justice at all as with Dubey's brother, Dhananjay Dubey, claiming that the Central Bureau of Investigation had covered up the facts in his brother's murder case.

"This has been a cover-up operation. The main killers are still at large," said Dhanajay.

The 31-year-old Dubey was working on the Golden Quadrilateral at Koderma (Jharkhand) when he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister's Office about corruption and poor quality of work.

In the letter Dubey had named some people and companies and had requested that his name be kept a secret as he feared that his life would be in danger if the contents of the letter became public.

The letter was received by the PMO on November 11, 2002. But the letter and his identity were leaked and on November 27, 2003, he was shot dead in front of Gaya Circuit House in Bihar.

Even though the quantum of punishment for the convicted will be announced on Saturday, but for Dubey's family members the fight for justice will continue.
