3 dead, 16 hurt in Nandigram clashes

New Delhi: Three people are dead and 16 injured including one Eastern Frontier Rifles jawan in fresh violence in Nandigram.

The injured have been admitted at Kamardah hospital in the area.

Violent clashes have yet again broken out between supporters of Trinamul Congress-led Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee and the CPI-M in Nandigram since last night.

The two groups hurled crude bombs at each other, injuring several people, including a jawan.

Paramilitary forces are due for deployment anytime now in the region. Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee met the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP to review the situation.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also expressed his concern over the deterioration in the law and order situation in the area.
