3 Idiots producers sorry for his outburst

Noida: Bollywood producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra on Saturday apologised to the media for asking a journalist to shut up during a press conference on Friday.

Chopra said he was he was provoked and lost his cool on being asked about not giving due credit to author Chetan Bhagat in his latest film 3 Idiots.

The 3 Idiots producer said that what he said and did at the press conference in Noida on Friday was silly. He also claimed that he had given Bhagat whatever credit and money was due to him.

"I say sorry to that gentleman. I was provoked. I shouldn't have said it. What I did was silly. I am really sorry. I have already given Bhagat the money. I gave him the money even before the movie was released," said Chopra.

When asked if he would like to meet Bhagat, who has been claiming that 3 Idiots is based on his famous novel Five Point Someone, Chopra replied "never".

"On TV yesterday (Friday) I saw myself screaming like an animal," added Chopra.

During a press meet in Noida on Friday Chopra lost his cool when a journalist asked to comment on Bhagat's claim.

"It's very sad to see everybody raising questions on Raju Hirani. Bhagat’s allegations are baseless. How can media believe it so easily? It's a publicity stunt by Bhagat. Don't believe him," said Chopra.

Then he suddenly started shouting when the journalist told him that bhe had not read the book but had seen the movie.

"Then you shut up. You have not read the book. So shut up. Shut up," an agitated Chopra told the journalist before actor Aamir Khan restrained him.

Even film director Rajkumar Hirani claimed that not more that five per cent of 3 Idiots was inspired by Bhagat's novel.

"Anyone who's read the book and seen my film will see the difference. The scenes in my film do not exist in his book. We have worked very hard on our story and I can guarantee that the storylines of the two do not match more than five per cent," claimed Hirani.

Bhagat has been saying that there are too many similarities between Five Point Someone and the film 3 Idiots to ignore his claim.

Bhagat has also hit out at the 3 Idiots team in his personal blog. He has blamed the makers of the movie of not giving him enough credit.

He has accused the 3 Idiots team of copying his story and claiming it as their original work.

On his blog, Bhagat writes that the setting, characters and plotline were all copied from his book.
