Saharsa (Bihar): A relief camp was being inaugurated in the flood-hit Saharsa district of Bihar on Wednesday, but the inaugural function didn't happen so easily.
It was delayed by almost 30 hours because of Bihar's newly appointed Flood Minister, Dinesh Chandra Yadav, who arrived late and didn't even bother to ask the authorities to go ahead with the rehabilitation work.
Instead he was busy criticising Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.
"Lalu ji just came to Saharsa and picked up a child to show his concern. He should have helped the families here instead," said Dinesh Chandra Yadav.
On the other side, Lalu too has been busy making sure that the inadequate relief work becomes an election issue in the state. The flood victims who escaped the fury of River Kosi are now caught in the political crossfire.
"We don't have food or shelter. Everything has been destroyed by the flood," says a victim.
"Ministers come and go and don't care. Our children are dying without food. There have been no arrangements for us," adds another victim.
The floods have so far affected more than 30 lakh people and Saharsa is one of the worse hit areas. But it seems the urgency with which the outside world views the situation has not trickled down to the political leadership of Bihar.
