Panchkula: Haryana Police on Tuesday registered a FIR against their former director general of police SPS Rathore under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) CrPC.
Rathore has been charged with forcing Ruchika Girhotra to commit suicide in 1993 after molesting and harassing her.
Haryana Police now want the Ruchika case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
"We have registered a case for abetment to suicide after complaint by Ashu Girhotra. We have requested for the case to be transferred to CBI," said Panchkula Superintendent of Police Manish Chaudhary.
"After registering the case under Section 306 and meeting the Advocate General I am recommending Ruchika case be handed over to CBI," said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Reacting to the registration of third FIR against Rathore, Ruchika's friend Aradhna Prakash Gupta thanked Bhupinder Singh Hooda for keeping his promise.
"I am happy. Haryana Chief Minister has kept his promise to have the FIR lodged. We are hopeful now. Rathore's influence seems to be diminishing," said Aradhna.
Rathore will also be stripped off his police medal given to the police officer for meritorious service in August, 1985.
The decision to take back Rathore's police medal was taken by a committee of Union Home Ministry officials in New Delhi on Monday.
Rathore has been convicted for molesting Ruchika and sentenced to six months in jail. The former Haryana DGP has also been fined a meagre Rs 1,000 in the molestation case.
Ruchika tragically committed suicide in 1993 with her family and friends alleging that Rathore used his influence to get the budding tennis player expelled from Sacred Hearth Senior Secondary School where she was a student.
She was expelled just a month after Rathore molested her.
Her brother Ashu was slapped with several false cases accusing him of being involved in thefts and was allegedly tortured by Haryana Police officials in the presence of Rathore.
