Live updates from day one of the third and the final Test between New Zealand and England played at Eden Park, Auckland.

New Zealand 1st innings

End of 90 overs: 250 for 1 (stumps) A great day for the Kiwi team thanks to this 171-run unbeaten partnership between Peter Fulton (124) and Kane Williamson (83). Bad day at the office for the English bowlers who managed just one wicket and that too came after a lot of effort.

As it happened: New Zealand v England, 3rd Test, Day 1

Peter Fulton (124) and Kane Williamson (83) added an unbeaten 171 for the second wicket as the hosts closed the day on 250 for 1 against England.

End of 72 overs: 208 for 1 The partnership between Fulton and Williamson is going from strength to strength. Williamson has completed his fifty, his sixth. The English bowlers are having a hard time out there in the middle. The deck is very flat and full of runs.

End of 64 overs: 180 for 1 Peter Fulton flicks off his hips to take a single and complete his first Test hundred. What an innings it's been. Also the partnership between Fulton and Kane Williamson (41) is past 100 now.

End of 59 overs: 173 for 1 Kane Williamson and Peter Fulton carried on without any trouble taking New Zealand into tea in a solid position compiling a 94-run stand as the England bowlers toiled hard in the second session. Fulton is nearing his century and is unbeaten on 95 whereas Williamson has reached 39.

End of 50 overs: 155 for 1 Peter Fulton went on a run scoring spree taking taking a couple off boundaries and a six off one Monty Panesar over as England's decision of bowling first Auckland backfired. With nothing on offer for the bowlers' New Zealand went from strength to strength as the day went on. Fulton and Kane Williamson have so far compiled a 76-run stand with Fulton on 83 and Williamson on 33.

End of 43 overs: 127 for 1 After lunch, New Zealand's run-rate improved massively courtesy some fluent boundaries by Kane Williamson. Williamson hit three boundaries off on James Anderson over which was followed by a big Peter Fulton six off Monty Panesar. Williamson has scored 27 off 46 balls whereas Fulton is batting on 62 off 135 balls.

End of 36 overs: 97 for 1 Kane Williamson and Peter Fulton started the session session solidly with Fulton reaching his fifty with boundary over mid-wicket in the 34th over off 109 balls. This is Fulton's third Test fifty.

End of 28 overs: 79 for 1 Lunch takenAgainst the run of play and one over to go for lunch, Hamish Rutherford gifted his wicket trying to cut a widish delivery from Steven Finn managing to edge it to first slip Alastair Cook for 37. Kane Williamson joined Peter Fulton (41) in the middle as the kiwis went to lunch at a healthy 79 for 1.

End of 23 overs: 62 for 0 Peter Fulton hit a confident on-drive off a pitched up delivery from Stuart Broad in the 21st over for a boundary to bring up the 50-run stand for the opening with Hamish Rutherford as the openers continued to defy the England bowlers after being put into bat. Fulton then hit a six, courtesy a top edge as the big guy reached 37 of 73 and Rutherford on 24 off 65.

End of 15 overs: 31 for 0 Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford weathered the early hostile session of fast bowling without much trouble to give New Zealand a decent start to the third Test. Fulton is batting on 20 off 50 balls and Rutherford is on 10 off 34 balls.

End of 8 overs: 15 for 0 England bowlers put but a hostile first hour of fast bowling with the New Zealand openers surviving in the middle. Peter Fulton got a boundary whipping one to the mid-wicket. Stuart Broad in particular bowled a good line but failed get past the outside edge on few occasions.

End of 1 over: 2 for 0 James Anderson started off the proceedings for England with Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford opening for New Zealand. Two runs came off the first over.

TossEngland captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand.

Team news: New Zealand are unchanged. Jonny Bairstow comes in for the injured Kevin Pietersen for England.
