4 killed in violent clashes in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: Kashmir Valley has been rocked by violent protests yet again after 10 days of relative peace. Curfew has been imposed in several places across the Valley and security forces have been deployed after four people were killed and 20 others injured in police firing on Friday in Sopore and Pattan.

Police says while intercepting a stone-pelting group of youth in Sopore, they were forced to fire to contain a raging crowd that was threatening to attack the forces deployed in the town. Two people were killed and six others injured in the firing.

In Pattan, protestors torched a police station. Clashes were also reported in Rambagh, Srinagar and Tral localities of Kashmir.

Five protestors were wounded, one of them critically, in Channapora area of Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had recently ordered an investigation into 17 killings by appointing a commission of inquiry headed by a former retired judge. The valley has been witnessing massive protests, some of which have turned violent, over the alleged killing of 19 persons in firing by security forces.
