2 days later, rescue operation still for Sonu

CNN-IBN

Agra: Its been more than 48 hours now since 2-year-old Sonu fell into an open borewell in a village near Agra. The operation to rescue the child is still continuing.

The army that was called in at 1330 hours on Thursday and is still digging vertically in order to get to the 68 feet level, so that work can start on a 7-foot horizontal tunnel to bring the boy out.

The operation is taking an unusually long time because of the soil giving way and undoing the digging.

The Army has had to redo the entire rescue procedure after the district administration tried to rescue the child without a proper plan in place, thus wasting precious hours.

The child is not responding to food or water and the doctors say that his survival could now be unlikely.

In a similar case in Agra district, 2-year old Vandana had also fallen down an open bore well and was rescued after a day long operation.
