Kingston (Jamaica): Paceman Jerome Taylor's career-best haul helped the West Indies dismiss India for just 200 on the first day of the fourth and final Test on Friday.
India, after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, struggled all day though captain Rahul Dravid did his best to save the innings with a watchful 81.
Taylor took five for 50, his first five-wicket haul in a Test innings on a pitch which assisted the bowlers.
Dravid played with admirable patience and sound technique in conditions that were all about survival. His 81 took 215 balls and he stroked 10 fours.
Dravid was eventually caught behind by wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin after edging a ball from seamer Corey Collymore that just nipped away.
Dravid and veteran Anil Kumble put on 93 for the seventh wicket in a partnership that ensured India approached some respectability.
Kumble was bowled for 45 when he was rushed into a prod outside off stump by Dwayne Bravo and bottom-edged the ball into his wicket.
India had slumped to three for two early in the day and at lunch had reached just 29-2 in 29 overs.
By tea they had battled to 102 for six with Taylor's pace and hostility troubling all the batsmen.
Dravid was at the crease for five-and-a-half hours, but had practically nothing by way of support.
Both teams were unchanged from the drawn third test in St Kitts earlier this week.
The series stands at 0-0 heading into the decisive final game.
