Doha: The Indian athletes had a good outing at the XVth Asian Games in Doha on Tuesday.
While the women's team won the gold medal in the 4x400 metres relay the men's team bagged the silver in the 4x400 meters relay.
And Sinimole Poulose won a bronze medal in the women's 1500 metre with a timing of 4 minutes and 15.09 seconds at the Khalifa Stadium. Bahrain's Maryam Yusuf Jamal (4:08.63) won the gold and the silver went to Japan's Yuriko Kaboyashi (4:14.96).
In the 4x400 women's relay the quartet of Sati Geetha, Pinki Pramanik, Chitra Kulathummuriyil and Manjeet Kaur breasted the tape in a time of 3 minutes and 32.95 seconds to take the gold. India had also won the gold in the event at the last Asian Games in Busan.
Kazakhsthan and China came in second and third.
The men's relay quartet came in second in the 4x400 metres relay final. Bhupinder Singh, Binu Mathew, Joseph Abraham and AB Thanikkal finished in 3 minutes and 6.65 seconds. With a time of 3 minutes 5.31 seconds, Saudi Arabia won the gold, while Sri Lanka won the bronze.
Ranjeet Maheswary finished fourth in the men’s triple jump in spite of a personal best effort of 16.54 mts.
In the 5000m for men Sunil Kumar (13:58.50 PB) came fifth while compatriot Surendra Kumar Singh (13:59.05 PB) took the sixth position.
In the women's pole vault event, V S Surekha finished a disappointing sixth with an effort of 3.80m. The women's 4X100 m relay team comprising Jyothi, Deepthi Jose, Nidhi and Poonam Tomar had to be content with the fifth place despite a season best timing of 46.29 sec.
India won just one gold, five silver and four bronzes in athletics at Doha compared to seven gold medals in the Busan Asian Games.
