Hyderabad: In a major embarrassment for the judiciary, five judges from Andhra Pradesh were caught copying at a Master of Law examination. One of the judges was found copying from a law book hidden under his answer sheet. Written slips and pages torn from textbooks were seized from other judges.
Just three days ago they were honourable judges delivering justice to the people. Now they have become dishonourable after being suspended for mass cheating.
The judges were caught copying red handed while appearing for an LLM examination in Warangal's Kakatiya University on Tuesday. The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh Nisar Ahmad Kakru has placed the copy cat judges under suspension
The state judiciary is taking the shameful act of cheating very seriously. The state Bar Council has condemned the incident, calling it unfortunate. A departmental enquiry has also been initiated.
"It is unfortunate. We were also surprised but it is being taken seriously. The CJ has taken swift action," says Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Narasimha Reddy.
Meanwhile, Kakatiya University has been asked to submit a detailed report to the Chief Justice. The suspended judges face dismissal from service as maximum punishment if the report proves their crime.
Law keepers have turned law breakers. It is a situation that has left many in the court premises red faced. But with swift suspension orders, the Chief Justice is attempting damage control. The five judges though now find themselves on the other side of the law, the territory of defaulters.
