New Delhi: Five people have been arrested in connection with assault on a missionary in Jaipur on Sunday.
Missonary Walter Masih was allegedly beaten up by Bajrang Dal activists for preaching Christianity.
Masih was manhandled by over 20 people at his house in Nandpuri and received multiple injuries.
After the attack, Masih said he had been receiving threats from what he called anti-Christian groups in the city.
Student groups and Christian organisations in the city have protested the attack and submitted a memorandum to governor Pratibha Patil seeking CBI probe.
The police are still probing the incident. They however, did not confirm that the people involved in the case had links with VHP, RSS or Bajrang Dal.
So far five people have been arrested but more people involved in the assault are likely to be arrested later, the police say.
The police are still questioning them. They are looking in to the media’s role into the case, as they say that they were not informed about the attack or the threat. Some camera crews were shooting the scene of assault.
The VHP has given a statement to the media that it has nothing to do with the entire case. It says that it is a stage-managed incident in which the media has been used.
The Bajrang Dal also says that it has nothing to so with the matter.
