Washington: With five days left to campaign for the US presidential elections, new state polls in the US show that the battle may already be over for Republican presidential hopeful John McCain.
Illinois senator Barack Obama has also widened his lead over McCain in Ohio where McCain is busy campaigning.
Interestingly, no Republican has won the White House without also winning there (Ohio).
If the US were to go to the polls on Thursday, Democrat Barack Obama would clinch the presidency, according to the CNN's latest average of national polls.
Out of the minimum 270 electoral votes needed to become president, Obama already has 291 votes, while McCain has 163. 84 votes are still up for grabs.
Battleground state of Colorado, that voted for George W Bush in 2004, is now clearly an Obama leaning state. Obama has doubled his lead here. He leads by 8 points.
CNN's poll of polls also says Indiana, a McCain-leaning state is now a toss up state, 48 per cent favour Obama.
In Florida, a key state in this election, the sunshine state that made all the difference in the 2000 election, Obama leads by 4 points, 51per cent to 47.
However, winning Florida to his side completely is not very easy even though the trends show that Obama is slowly gaining grounds.
