1 dead, 5 injured in Mumbai cylinder blast

Mumbai: Five people were injured and one was killed in a gas cylinder blast in Mumbai early on Sunday morning.

The blast took place in a ground floor Irani cafe, in a building in Walkeshwar in the Malabar Hill area of the city. The injured are reported to be employees of the cafe.

"According to witnesses, the blast was caused by a gas cylinder explosion. Investigations are still on," DCP, Zone 3 Mumbai, Pratap Dighavkar said.

Police sources said a leaking cooking gas cylinder belonging to Damodar Haribhai Mithaiwala on the ground floor of the building Sagar Cottage, exploded damaging the first floor of the building.

All injured were rushed to Nair Hospital where three were admitted and others treated as OPD patients.

Two of these work as watchmen for the building.
