Jamui (Bihar): Five persons, including four security personnel were killed and four others grievously injured in a daring assault by armed Maoist ultras at Jhajha railway station in Bihar's Jamui district this evening here
today.
Over 500 heavily-armed Naxalites raided the GRP police station at the Jhajha railway station, forced its employees and officials to leave before triggering a dynamite blast, IG (Operation) S K Bhardwaj said, adding several rifles
were also looted the police station.
The Naxalites later locked up the policemen in a fierce encounter, Bhardwaj said. Five persons, including Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) personnel, were killed on the spot.
Two SAP personnel, a GRP man, one RPF jawan and parcel man were killed in the attack, he said.
Four others who suffered injuries were admitted to a nursing home where their condition was stated to be critical, IG (Operation) said.
Bhardwaj said the Naxalites were believed to have looted 20 firearms, including rifles and carbines and hundreds rounds of ammunition from the GRP police station. The GRP police station was partially damaged in the dynamite blast.
Heavy reinforcements led by the SP (Jamui) reached the spot as intensive combing operation continued against the ultras, he said.
Several trains, including Howrah-Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Sealdah-Gorakhpur Express were stopped at outer signal of Jhajha, while down trains from Patna, including Patliputra Express and Mokhama-Howrah.
Passengers were held back at Gidhaur for several hours because of the incident, railway sources said.
The Naxalites reportedly tampered the electricity transmission tower resulting in complete blackout in the area, they said.
