Jaipur: It has been twelve days that the Gurjar protests have paralysed the road and rail traffic in Rajasthan and almost 50,000 commuters are stranded due to the protests.
Each time the Jaipur railway station announces another cancelled train, the disappointment sinks in among hundreds of stranded passengers, some who have been waiting at the station for days.
Subodh Kumar from Bihar has been waiting to go home for the past four days now and what's worse he's got just Rs 50 left in his pocket.
“I've been stranded here for four days now. I can neither find a train nor a bus to go back. I had come to take admission in BBA but there's no way I can go back now,” says Stranded passenger, Jaipur, Subodh Kumar.
With angry Gurjar protestors continuing to block rail traffic in Bandikui on the Jaipur-Delhi route, chances of traffic getting back to normal soon are slim.
“It is now our turn. Even if we die fighting for ourselves, we will still stay here. Until we get ST status we will not move from here,” says Protestor, Bandikui, Sudha.
Over fifty thousand passengers have been affected in the last two days by the cancellation of over fifty trains. As a result the already crippled bus traffic is under pressure. With teeming passengers, a hundred additional buses have failed to help.
However, there's little that the government has to offer.
“I agree traveling has become difficult for the people. Exams have also been affected due to this, tourism and trade has also been affected. I request the people of Rajasthan to be patient,” says Rajasthan Chief Minister, Jaipur, Vasundhara Raje.
The government is already facing the heat from the Gurjar protestors but if the rail and road traffic are not restored in the state, the Vasundhara Raje government may soon have to face the anger of the helpless commuters too.
