New Delhi: A 52-year-old extreme athlete from South Africa is running 4000 kms across the country to raise funds for children born with cleft lips. And believe it or not, this man who runs almost a marathon a day, is an asthma patient.
David Greir, a celebrity chef from South Africa, in the last 6 years, has run through several countries like, Madagascar, South Africa and China. Always looking for new ways to push to unbelievable limits, he is currently running almost a marathon a day, to cover 4000 kms from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, on foot, to raise funds for children born with cleft lips.
David Grier says, "It's a simple gift, getting a child back the right to smile. For me it gave my life a meaning and really put life into perspective. I will never forget, back in South Africa, when I handed over a child with a cleft lip after surgery to her mother, she held the baby and said my child is beautiful."
Gifting smiles to over 1000 kids across the world, David, says, the most daunting challenge yet, has been running on the largest man made structure - the Great Wall of China. He raised 3 million dollars for cleft lip surgeries through this remarkable achievement.
He says, "I started in temperatures of 40 degrees and finished the run in -22 degrees. I climbed 1800 thousands meters in sand for running the wall and if equal that it's same to the height of Everest."
Looking at his fitness level even at the age of 52, it's impossible to know that he is a severe asthmatic. He says, "Nothing is impossible, if you could control your condition. It's unbelievable, what you can achieve. All you need is a little inhaler and you're free to live life.."
The huge leaps which David takes to change lives around everyday, is a reminder that we too can make small leaps everyday to do the same thing for children.
