Wah Pakistan is clearly in turmoil. The airwaves at 8 PM Prime time on the International News of Pakistan’s Dawn TV showed that at least 65 people had been killed in a suicide attack at the Wah ordnance factory.
The two suicide bombers blew themselves outside the gates of Pakistan's biggest military arms complex during a shift change.
The attack was perfectly timed just as the shift got over at the Pakistan Ordnance Factory in the high security Wah Cantonment outside Islamabad.
People at the blast site told CNN-IBN that the suicide bomber struck at the closing hours of the Pakistan ordinance factory when hundreds of workers were coming out of the factory and then one of the two suicide bombers blew himself up within the huge crowd, resulting in huge loss of lives. This is one if the deadliest suicide attacks in recent months.
The workers stood no chance of escape as the carnage left by the blast reveals. Eyewitnesses later reported seeing bodies lying outside the gates of the factory, a few of them intact and many more shredded by the impact of the blast.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan of Beitullah Mahsud claimed responsibility. In a statement warned of more such attacks unless the army stopped its operations against the group in the frontier province.
The country went on high alert and security at strategic installations was tightened. Prime Minister Gillani condemned the attack but it underscored a growing perception that this government is not in control.
Nawaz Sharif has threatened to walk out of the coalition with the PPP on Friday, unless the judges are restored. But PPP leader Asif Zardari appears to have other matters on his mind. His party has officially nominated him for the post of president. Zardari is to apparentlyl decide on Friday.
